Several sources of funding are available to subsize the cost of hiring, training, and integrating co-op students into meaningful work experiences. Funding partners are now accepting applications for Summer 2024 (May - August 2024).
The Federal Government's Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) works with funding delivery partners to support the hiring of domestic students. Employers may receive a wage subsidy of 50% (up to $5,000) for a 4-month Co-op term, or 70% (up to $7,000) for under-represented groups. Funding applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, and eligibility may vary.
Some of the SWPP funding options available are BioTalent, Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council, ECO Canada, Food Processing Skills Canada, Information, and Communications Technology Council (ICTC), and Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC). Some of these opportunities may seem province-specific, but are generally available for employers across Canada.
UBC Okanagan’s International Student Co-op Hiring Grant supports employers with hiring international students. Wage subsidies may cover up to 50% (up to $5,000) for a 4-month Co-op term. For more details, please refer to the eligibility requirements and the ISI Application Portal.
