Academic Planning
Check out the following important program information to help plan your journey:
Every student’s academic path is unique. Whether you are planning for a 4-month summer term or a consecutive 8-to-12-month work experience, there are several ways to sequence Co-op work terms into your degree. We recommend that you review the Co-op Sequencing Options.
Here are some important this to remember:
First Work Term Timing: Ideally, you should complete your first Co-op work term within one year of joining the program—preferably during a Summer or Fall term.
Co-op Credits are Additive: Co-op work terms do not replace required or elective course work in your undergraduate degree program.
UBC Okanagan undergraduate students registered in Co-op work terms are responsible for withdrawing from all academic courses during their work experience. However, students may request to take a maximum of one (1) academic course per work term.
To ensure your success, the course must be delivered outside of your employer’s business hours and requires prior both employer and Faculty in conjunction with the Interdisciplinary Co-op Education Program prior to commencing the course.
You must review and follow the Additional Academic Course Request Guidelines and complete the Additional Course Request form.
Deadlines to submit request:
- March 10th for Summer Term 1-2
- July 10th for Winter Term 1
- November 10th for Winter Term 2
